Kunsthistorisches Museum

Once the centre of power of the Habsburg monarchy, the Hofburg Palace embodies the splendour and magnificence of the great empire. From here the fate of the country was decided and even today the Imperial Palace is the official residence of the Austrian Federal President. Visitors can now admire the private chambers and reception rooms. Also located in the Hofburg: several museums, the Austrian National Library, the Imperial Chapel and the Augustinian Church.

The world-famous summer residence of Empress Sisi attracts millions of visitors to Vienna every year. Its baroque splendour and the spacious park with incredible garden art are most impressive. Also the rooms are steeped in history: the mirror room has played host to performances by Mozart and meetings with Napoleon as well as many other greats. Visitors can now follow the footsteps of the Habsburgs through the magnificent ceremonial rooms and lounges. Don’t miss the Gloriette, the Palm House and the oldest zoo in the world.

For art lovers there is no way past the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The great artistic masterpieces are all here. Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Velasquez - the Kunsthistorisches Museum collection holds a number of the most significant works in art history as well as the largest Brueghel collection in the world. The well-guarded treasures of the Habsburgs and the Egyptian-Oriental collection are housed in the art room.
